Established in 2001, the .NAME generic TLD is the sole TLD planned for personal websites only. These domains can consist of personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are known by. Initially, just third-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to obtain john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already purchased 3rd-level domains remained running.

You will have the chance to switch the WHOIS contact information, to park your domain, to set up Custom DNS records, etc. You can also move over an active domain to our firm if you have its EPP transfer authorization key from the present domain service provider and we will renew it after the transfer has been done. There are no particular rules on who can buy a dot NAME domain name, but in order to keep the concept behind its creation alive, the Registry may check who the Registrant is and if there is no relation between the owner and the actual domain name, the registration might be challenged.
